Pelikan M800 Renaissance Brown Special Edition

Pelikan M800 Renaissance Brown Special Edition

The first of the Souverän Special Editions for 2017 entered my collection yesterday - the M800 Renaissance Brown.

I would describe it as a translucent scotch whisky brown in a 'cracked ice' style material. I had first seen an image of this pen twelve months ago and at the time I was not very excited about the colour, or the style but I have learnt that with pens you should not make any decisions until you see the item in person. It is not truely stunning like the M805 Vibrant Blue but it is a handsome pen.

I have read that the name renaissance brown comes from the treatment applied to bronze statues to produce a particular patina and the marketing blurb re-enforces that - I suppose you have to have a 'story' to sell a pen.

When my vendor gave me the option of getting this pen with a Italic Broad nib I jumped at the chance - I already have one of these nibs from when they were first released in 2010 but love the super broad nibs so much another cannot hurt. In part it does offset my inability to find a M800 3B nib at a reasonable price - one day...
